Safety Tips when Boating Lake Havasu

Remember, when you are out boating on Lake Havasu to take all precautions against boating accidents, by following the safety rules of boating.

It is best to be safe than sorry, therefore you should always keep your keys on a floating key ring and your official documents in airtight containers. Doing so eliminates the possibilities of losing either to the watery deep while boating on Lake Havasu.

When you own a boat and have guests aboard, you really should have someone else aboard who knows boating basics. Doing so helps to ensure that if something does happen to you while onboard, the other person is able to navigate the boat and see to all the basics of boating. We encourage basic boating safety courses for anyone boating on Lake Havasu.

Always keep the proper and updated fire extinguishers needed aboard your boat, incase of accidental fires. Any time you do have a fire onboard and you are unable to contain it, you and your passengers should be prepared to abandon the boat. Make sure you have enough life jackets for everyone and that they are securely in place, especially on children and those who do not know how to swim. Be sure that you and your guests know how to signal for help if the occasion should arise.

You should always, report minor accidents when there any serious injuries, fatalities and extensive damage.

Drinking and boating do not mix, not only does it dehydrate you while on the water, but it impairs your vision and judgment. It is best to leave the alcohol elsewhere and just enjoy your time boating safely. Keep in mind that alcohol is one of the three major reasons for drowning, as well as not being able to swim and being in cold water.

Speaking of drowning, there are some signs to be aware of, since many individuals mistake drowning for simple water play. These include the drowning person holding their head back with their mouth open as they try to get air, however they are making no vocal sounds. Their arms will involuntarily seem to be doing a breaststroke above the water and their heads will bob up and down, whether they are above the waters surface or below it. Keep in mind that drowning can take place from twenty seconds to one minute depending on the size of the drowning individual.
